Naturalizing: through spreading the seed.
Light requirements: (partial) shade
Cyclamens need a lightly shaded habitat. Their soil must contain sufficient humus and be rich in calcium (1 or 2 times a year is sufficient), but the idea that cyclamens need a lot of moisture is a misconception.
They should be covered once a year with a light mulch composed of well-composted leaves. Doing so imitates conditions in their wild habitat. Cyclamen hederifolium flowers in the autumn, while Cyclamen coum wait until the winter. The leaves have a lovely shape and are often beautifully marked. Plants are usually propagated from seed or gathered from the wild. This means that the variety among these plants is great, especially when it comes to their flower colours.
What makes Cyclamen hederifolium so especially attractive is its pretty leaves. What's more, they remain green during the winter!
